I checked the website for annual dues only to discover your informative, attractive website. The site is something to be proud of as well as everything else the society does to promote local history!

When you posted the picture of the Tempest Brick company on FACEBOOK April 7,2014,it would have been nice if you hadn't cropped John Tempest, who founded Tempest Firebrick, his brother Aaron Tempest a brick mason, (back row)and the superintendent of the plant, who was in the front row left from the picture.

I have other things to do right now. When I get to it I will send accurate information.

Thank God for Scott who saved this photo from the trash and got no photo
credit on your site.

As historians don't you check your resources? Forgive a cranky old lady
her opinions. This is an example of why
I am not on Facebook!!

Relative of John Tempest, Maggie

Does anyone know if the Nancy Mccollister in the 1880 census of Monongahela City is the same one that married Frederick Wilson?

My father and several other family members were born in your city. I have been doing genealogical research on my family and have traced them back to 1530 in Germany. Years ago I was in your city and your historical society was selling t shirts with a sternwheel ship on it. I bought one for my Dad and it happened to be the same ship he worked on pushing coal barges up the river. As a small boy I can remember walking down to the river bank and waving at him as he passed. There is a street named for our family there. If anyone knows anything about my family please contact me.

I was born in Monongahela on Lincoln St and all my family on my father's side were from Monongahela and the surrounding small towns, including Shire Oaks, Coal Bluff and Elrama going back 5 generations, into the early 1800's. My 5 Great grandfather was born in Elrama in 1812. Most of my deceased relatives are buried in the Monongahela Cemetery including my father, John Wilson Eckert who died in 1946.

Not sure what you mean by military srhplacshios.'Scholarships to the military academies to not require any special kind of relationship to somebody in the military. The services offer various military srhplacshios to their members without regard to family ties. There may be financial aid/grants provided by state and local governments to family members of military members, but the ones I am familiar with require a very direct relationship a child, for instance.Cousins, nephews, nieces, and the like would not generally qualify.

My mother's side of the family came from the area. They were from Ireland and I am researching them and came across you site. Their names were the Rogan's and Monfort's. One cousin still lives in the area and her name is Grace Cain. Thanks for the site.
