Maverick ROTC

COL Eric Ahlness wrote on November 11th, 2010
After graduating from MSU with B.S. and M.S., as well as being a Maverick alumni, I'm now bringing my daughter to campus for a college visit, to include checking out the ROTC program. Amazing how the time goes by.

Thank you for your service. I am the mother of Ryan Jones, recent graduate of ROTC University of Minnesota as a 2LT. Ryan told me about this site and I have enjoyed reading it.

Wow, I can't believe how much the program has grown! I'm a 94' graduate in-which there were only 8 in my class. Great to see the ROTC program going strong! Go Mavericks!

It is great to see the comments and see some old names on the website. I attended ROTC from 87-89 and am part of the commisioning class of 89. I'm currently serving full time in the WA Army National Guard as an AGR. My Battalion is currently deployed in support of OIF and I am on my second deployment since 2003.

It would be great to hear from anyone I attended ROTC with and to catch up on how and what you are doing.

Thanks againd for the website.

Always fun to take a look at your web-site. I was APMS from 82-85 and truly enjoyed my assignment there. Being an instructor for CGSC and SCP at Ft. Leavenworth, I constantly see our MSU students going through the various officer courses. I retired from AD in Jan 01 and still work in Leavenworth for the Battle Command Training Program. We do SIMS for the NG and AC Combat Brigades, truly keeps me in touch with the military in general. Good luck to all you cadets, you picked a fine vocation. COL(R) Ed Otto

I was looking at some alumni information from Gustavus and saw that there is now an affiliation with Gustavus. I graduated from Gustavus in 1984. I was a member of the Mankato State ROTC class of '82. I believe the class before us did their first year up at the Twin Cities campus, but we had all of our classes in Mankato. When I enrolled in the ROTC program and asked for credit at Gustavus, I was told I was the first ROTC cadet at Gustavus since WWII. The next year, Peter Ford arrived at the program. I don't remember any other Gusties attending while I was there. I was commissioned at the end of my sophomore year 1982. I was also the cadet that started the Ranger program at Mankato. When I was still a cadet LTC Baumgartner, PMS (I believe) and I approached Gustavus to try and get a relationship started with them but it didn't work out

I went on active duty upon my graduation from GAC. While I was in college, I was a Field Artillery officer with the National Guard in New Ulm. I branch changed to Infantry and as luck would have it, was part of the battalion tasked with ROTC summer camp at Ft. Lewis (2/2 Infantry 9th ID) where I taught small unit tactics. I even remember a number of Mavericks coming through my training.

I am proud to see how well the program is doing. ROTC was an important part of my life, as was my military service. Please add me to any alumni correspondence you may have in the future.

Thanks for posting this website. It's always interesting to see what your peers are now doing. I am currently a flight nurse for the Air Force. (go ahead... I know what you are thinking) I work at Ramstein Germany. So if any of you are ever in Germany and want to see what the Air Force does for Air Evac, look me up.
