I served as "Scouse Garrity" in 249 from 65 to Jan 68 thence to 264 Sig Sqn and then to 39 Missile Rgt RA where I volunterily transferred to Kings Own Border. 249 Signals Squadron was a great Squadron but I wanted something more exciting and needed to be in the Infantry to do it. :).

I arrived at 249 Squadron (Air Support Trp), in June 1963 fresh from trade training at 24 Sigs Catterick. Life was difficult for me because unbeknown to anyone, (least of all me), I was autistic. Any social activity was confusing and difficult to understand which made me appear rude and a loner.
Despite my problems there were some people who were friendly and helpful – some names I remember with affection are Ted Banham, Harry Berresford, Wilf Eggerton, Taff Dunbar and Ng Ah Chai in the squadron office.
I was only at 249 for four months, that was when the army discovered that they had made a mistake – they thought I was a TG op when in fact I was a Radio op, (a much lower form of life). I was soon on my way up to Malacca and 208 squadron and did several tours in Borneo.
There was a silver lining because being among TG ops for those four months meant that when I arrived in 208 I was a bit of a Morse wizzard.
I hope all those who have survived have found a happy place, as I have.
Steve Foster.

Bitcoin Crypto Investment My investment experience with bitcoins. There is no doubt that bitcoin is a trend today and there is a lot of success in the business world, because people prefer to save money in their wallets than in banks, last summer I lost about $54,000 due to the fall in the price of bitcoins. A colleague at work who knew my suffering in the field of bitcoin savings led me ([email protected] ) where I can store and invest my bitcoins with more than 100% profit margin. At first I was skeptical, so I decided to try it for just $500. I was amazed after 12 hours I made another $1,500 and was able to make an immediate withdrawal and since then I have invested and made more money. Investing bitcoins with [email protected] changed my life when I made more than $176,000. You can contact :[email protected] to Enjoy endless possibilities.

As we approach Christmas, I'm afraid I have some very sad news. Gus Boag's daughter Kirsty has asked me to inform you that her dear Dad passed away on Sunday 15 December. Naturally Gus' wife Freda, his son Cameron and his daughter Kirsty are devastated so if you wish to send your condolences, please send them to Gus' email address which is: [email protected].

I didn't know Gus but I know some of you served in 249 at the same time as him.

Kirsty has given me the details about his funeral arrangement. It is taking place at 2pm on Friday 10 January 2020 at the Borders Crematorium, Melrose, TD6 9HA. After the funeral, everybody is invited to the Selkirk Rugby Club, Ettrickhaugh Road, Selkirk, TD7 5AX.

If you are able to attend the funeral, Gus' family will be pleased to welcome you. I know you will all join me with your thoughts and prayers to Gus' family at this very sad time so close to Christmas

Hi Folks, thought it was time to give an update, Deborah and I returned to Oz in early April, living in the beautiful coastal town of Mandurah which is 1hr south of Perth in Western Australia. We have settled in quickly which is not far from Bunbury where we were last time in 2012/13. It is winter here at the moment "FIRES" on but not long till spring. Might meet up with Neil Campbell who is touring WA at the moment, the last time I saw him was at the Squadron's 50th celebration reunion in 2009. I read with envy the reformation of the Sqn in 2019. It seems the Sqn never dies, a long time ago since I came down from 253 in Kowloon to 249 in 1967. take care all--- "249 is a happy Squadron" cheers Goldie Peters.

Further info from the RSM of 3 Div:

Good evening gentlemen, WngO 1 is going out shortly for the Kiwi Centenary and 249 reformation parade. BLUF: Wed 29 May 19, parade, kiwi trophy and social in both messes. Officers will black tie a cocktail party, Soldier veterans will be in my mess. Gurkha Curry and drinks, accomodation is virtually zero as HCR are moving to Picton (450 pax). Solstice park has a hotel and is about 5 mins away, i can square wheels to and from hotel nearer the time. No action for now, just pencil it in your diaries if you are interested.
As a side note, when 249 disbanded, the majority of history disappeared. If you have anything that would be appropriate to gift for the new 249 SHQ, i would be eternally grateful. I have one wooden mount, really struggling atm....

Hi Gents, I'm the Current serving RSM at 3DSR here in Bulford, I'm also ex 249 AMF 99-02. The Royal Signals are reforming 249 Sig Sqn as a QGS Sqn next year. I'm trying to build the Sqn's history prior to AMF, can any of you help me out with a link to the history or provide any interesting pictures with dits etc.

So for your diaries, a very provisional date of week beginning the 27 May 19 for a parade/reunion marking 249 Sig Sqn's reforming. Location Bulford, my plan is a cocktail party for the Officers and a mess BBQ/Gurkha Curry in my mess for everyone else.

Kind Regards,

SPOTTED ON FACEBOOK TODAY - 18TH JULY 2018 - FOR THOSE WHO REMEMBER "ROBBO"
Terry Roberts
15 July at 19:49
Written by scotty
Vale

It is with a profound sense of sadness, some of you may already know, that I regret to inform the regimental family that my father in law Terry ‘Chogi’ Roberts formerly Royal Signals, 1 KSLI and 3 LI passed away after a long and valiant battle against illness on 04 July 18.

Even at the height of his illness Terry never lost his renowned dry sense of squaddie humour. On one occasion responding to a fellow patients confused question about what his obviously too young daughters did in the war he replied ‘killed Germans’! How we laughed…😂😂😂

Noting his natural wit and sarcasm, Terry wasn’t shy of singling out our American cousins for some special ‘praise’ either; we are all sure that the irony of his passing (04 July) wouldn’t have been lost on him. Undoubtedly a few choice words would have been reserved at the timing of it all!🤬🤬🤬

In accordance with his wishes Terry’s funeral will be held at:

1230hrs, 25 July 18
Shrewsbury Crematorium,
London Road,
SHREWSBURY
SY2 6PS

The family have specifically requested that anyone wishing to attend refrain from wearing black and choose something colourful in celebration of his life. Terry was a true Salopian proud of his roots and the regiment, once a Light Infantryman, always a Light Infantryman especially of the Shropshire kind. Please feel free to join us after the service, pull up a sandbag, tell a few war stories and raise a glass in his honour, all welcome:

Meole Brace Bowling Club
Meole Rise, off Upper Rd,
SHREWSBURY
SY3 9JF

Finally on behalf of Chris, Angela, Teressa and the rest of our family thank you all for your messages of condolence and support, they’ve been heartfelt in their receipt.

This is in response to the message from Dave Clapson asking if Princess Mary Barracks was still there.
The PM Barracks site is now the Singapore Polytechnic and a huge amount of development and building has taken place, When I was last in Singapore in about 2007 Moberly Block was still there and was being used by students. The other blocks and buildings were pretty much gone. If you google "singapore polytechnic" you will find a campus map and you will be able to locate something called Cafe @ Moberly. I believe that the "bones" of the block are still very recognizable but a lot of modernization and updating has taken place.

I just found out yesterday that Len "Geordie" Rae (Comcen) passed away about 15 years ago. I talked to his wife Lynn but she only said he died 15yr ago then hung up.

Dear 249 ers,

As you will be aware our Stalwart organiser Graham has decided it is time to hand over the baton to Jim C in the coming months. I feel I cannot let this occasion go without putting on record our sincere thanks to Graham and his good lady Lynn for all of the hard work they have put in over the years to make the 249 web site and family a thing to be proud of.

The excellent organisation of the 50th Anniversary will live on well beyond our lives and is likely to be the last major occasion when we were able to share the many happy memories of our youth.

I know you will join with me in thanking Graham and Lynn and wishing him a long and healthy retirement from the post.
